Puebla’s Talavera Tradition

Talavera pottery traces back to the city of Puebla, Mexico, where Spanish colonial ceramic techniques merged with indigenous craft traditions starting in the 1500s. Genuine Talavera is tin-glazed earthenware, hand-painted in cobalt blue, yellow, and green, and fired at high temperatures that give it a distinctive weight and durability decorative “Talavera-style” imitations don’t have.
