Ireland — Donegal, underrated day trip
Every Ireland itinerary online sends first-timers to the Cliffs of Moher, and for good reason — but the Cliffs of Moher top out around 700 feet and see roughly 1.5 million visitors a year. Slieve League, in County Donegal, rises nearly 2,000 feet — among the highest sea cliffs in Europe — and gets a fraction of the traffic, mostly because it sits further from the main tourist circuit.
The walk to Bunglas viewpoint is a short, well-marked path suitable for most visitors; the more serious hike continues along the ridge itself (One Man’s Pass), which is genuinely exposed and not for anyone uneasy with heights or edges.
This is the single best pairing with the Donegal stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way above — most visitors who make it this far north skip Slieve League entirely simply because they don’t know it’s there, not because it isn’t worth the detour.
Sephari’s Outdoors & Country Living collection has the sturdy footwear this cliff-edge walk calls for.
